Review of the
week
Willie Crawford Site
Dear Willie
I'm writing this all on an impulse, I suddenly felt I should
tell you this.
I've known you for some years now - or rather been familiar
with your name. But in the past 15 days, as I've been
"working the forums" more actively than before, I've
come to learn a lot more about you, and respect you a whole lot
more.
The name "Willie Crawford" on a message thread
generally gets me to read the full thread these days. And in
addition to learning a lot of new things that I'd have otherwise
missed, I'm beginning to see just how deeply you care about
helping others.
And am reminded - and slightly shamed - by how I've sort of
drifted away from a purpose which was as lofty and focused when
I first started online in 1996.
At the time, as webmaster of a couple of medium traffic sites
answering questions and offering information about heart
disease, I was helping hundreds of people every week. It was a
GREAT feeling, though I wasn't making any money from it.
And then the e-commerce bug bit, and I got thinking of ways
to earn cash from the Web. The first plan worked, a few more
evolved, they worked too. And before I knew it, I was stuck in
the groove of trying to get my e-commerce ventures to grow and
earn more money.
In the process, I put off answering many emails from readers.
And today, not many ask me questions from my heart disease
website. I miss it. And seem to have missed my direction.
Never mind the fact that 50% of the money I earn online is
donated to my Children's Heart Fund, and goes towards sponsoring
a kid's heart operation. I still feel I've lost direction.
And now am glad I found it - after seeing your work online.
When Jim Wilson (of JimWorld.com) died, I posted a note on
his memorial website, and read the hundreds of tributes made by
his friends and mentees. I myself was guided on several
occasions by Jim, who helped me get started way back in 1996.
And realized that Jim had left the Internet a better place
than when he entered it.
That now has become my ideal, my goal in life.
With Jim gone, I was looking for a role model. You, Willie,
are my new model.
Your selfless posts, informative, educational and
instructive, backed by an incredibly vast experience with life
and online marketing, have already helped - and I'm sure will
continue to help - several hundred people, myself included, in
different aspects of doing business on the Net.
But not all you write about is business-related. I've read
many of your posts that talk about higher things like morals,
values, attitude, goodness, religiousness, belief in a higher
power, doing the right thing and so much more that go towards
making the world a nicer place to live in.
And I just thought I had to write to say "Thank you,
Willie".
You too will help make the Internet a better place than it
was when you entered it. And I hope and pray you will have the
strength, health and energy to keep doing it for a long long
time.
Maybe this note is too long - but it is entirely unplanned,
written on the spur of a moment, and so rambles a little.
But every word comes from my heart.
Best wishes
